Homesteaded in 1891

Lost River Livestock has been involved in the purebred livestock industry since 1975.  We have our roots in Simmental cattle, going back to an original group of cows in the mid-1980’s.  Gelbvieh was introduced in the early 90’s, bred up from a Simmental base.  We chose Gelbvieh because they were slightly smaller framed, solid colored and had excellent maternal ability.  After breeding and selling Gelbvieh seedstock for a number of years, our customers expressed an interest in more moderate, refined cattle.  We saw a tremendous opportunity in Red Angus cattle, both as purebred seedstock and as a cross-breed with Gelbvieh.  The cross with both Red and Black Angus has been phenomenal.

We are a diverse operation, with spring and fall calving cowherds.  We also raise cash small grains and row crops and produce hay for feeding and for sale.  However, our environment is best suited for cows and they are the heart of our operation.  We are truly cattlemen (and women) first!  We love to talk about cattle and visit about the beef industry.  Please give us a call and plan to stop by.  We would like to share our vision of raising cattle.
